a residence for a designer/artist in an 1860’s Chelsea apartment building.
the apartment is defined by basaltina stone window sills, stainless steel counter tops and an 11 foot long, 2” thick, solid walnut bench. these low, planar elements emphasize a horizontality that along with white-washed brick walls and bleached oak flooring, expand the perceptual boundaries of the room. additionally, a pocket door between the living room and bedroom opens up to visually unify the three windows of the apartment, creating the feeling of a mini-loft.
